As of this time, Bhutan Telecom (Druknet) seems to be the only authorized domain registrar for the .bt country domain name(cTLD). For someone who wants a .bt domain name but want to host their website on a server other than Druknet’s, the process is fairly simple than it appears. However, pointing your .bt domain name to another host incurs an additional cost (Nu. 1000) which doesn’t seem inline with domain registration standards.

Requirements for .bt domain registration:

1. Valid Bhutanese trade license if you are registering the domain for your company

2. If registering the domain name for a Government organization, a signed letter from the head of the organization

3. If registering for personal use, the requirements aren’t clearly mentioned. Most probably they you don’t need to submit any documents

.bt Domain Registration cost: Nu. 1000/- per year

Registration by an International company/entity

1. Proof of business/company ownership/license.

Cost: Nu. 3000/- per year (Approx. US$ 50)

Pointing your .bt domain to another web host

During the submission of your domain registration form, you will also need to submit another domain forwarding form.

In the Domain Forwarding Form, you will need to correctly specify the Name Server of your web host along with it’s IP address. Although, the name server (primary and secondary) are enough.

Ex: If you want to point your .bt domain to Drukhost’s server, the name server details are as follows:

Primary Name Server: ns1.drukhost.com
IP Address: 67.222.134.12

Secondary Name Server: ns2.drukhost.com
IP Address: 31.220.15.148
